Trees for Trout
Salmon in the Classroom Ferris Trout Unlimited is hoping to introduce several Salmon in the Classroom projects within area schools surrounding the Big Rapids campus. FTU is in need of teachers interested in participating in this program. For more information on Salmon in the Classroom, please visit the Michigan DNR website here DNR - Salmon in the Classroom.
Stream Stabilization, Conservation & Restoration During various occasions throughout the year we provide conservation efforts to our local streams with projects that are focused on restoration of a watershed. Many of these projects are stabilization efforts used to help alleviate the pressure from erosion on our waters. |
Newsflash
Ferristu.org launched on October 10th, 2008 by Fisheye Internet Services & Hosting. |
Our goal with this project is to plant native seedlings every semester along our watersheds in areas of concern. By planting trees, the waters within that area will receive a temperature drop due to the additional shade. With a drop in temperature, dissolved oxygen levels increase meaning less stress on the trout in the area. As their roots grow into the soil, the trees will also help stop erosion into the rivers. Other parts of this project may also include falling dead trees and snags in the area into the river, therefore providing additional cover for trout.
